Nyeya Yen is a committed socialist who has spent decades fighting for social and economic justice in Ghana and across Africa. His commitment to these ideals led him to serve briefly under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), where he was a leading member of the Defence Committees. Following his opposition to what he viewed as the rightward shift of the Rawlings administration, he was forced into exile in 1982.

Despite the challenges of exile, he remained dedicated to the struggle for justice, democracy, and the empowerment of ordinary people in Ghana. He continued to advocate for political change and social progress, contributing to the broader movement that eventually culminated in the restoration of liberal democratic rule in Ghana.

Today, Nyeya Yen remains actively engaged in the struggles of the Ghanaian people for economic emancipation. He works closely with marginalized communities, particularly mining communities, supporting their efforts to secure equitable access to and benefit from their natural resources. He is also a key advocate for the establishment and growth of the Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG), which seeks to provide a credible alternative to the neo-liberal parties that have alternated in governing Ghana since the 1980s.

Second Vice Chair, Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG)
In this role, Nyeya Yen assists in providing strategic leadership to the party, chairs meetings when required, and helps ensure that the party’s programmes and policies are effectively implemented.

Vision and Commitment
Nyeya Yen is passionate about the need for structural economic transformation in Ghana. He believes that without fundamental changes to the country’s economic system, Ghana will remain dependent on the world’s capitalist powers. He argues that it is unacceptable for a nation that is Africa’s largest producer of gold to continue experiencing widespread poverty and inequality.

He is committed to helping build the Progressive Alliance for Ghana into a mass grassroots movement capable of mobilising citizens for meaningful social, economic, and political transformation. He believes that integrity, accountability, and service to the people must be at the heart of political leadership, and these are the values he seeks to uphold in public life.
