The Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG) reached a defining milestone on Saturday, 1st August 2026, as delegates from all sixteen regions of the country unanimously acclaimed Dr. John Enyonam Kpikpi as the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2028 General Elections during the National Delegates Congress in Accra.
The historic acclamation reflected the confidence of the party in Dr. Kpikpi’s leadership and reaffirmed PAG’s commitment to presenting Ghanaians with a bold alternative built on integrity, competence and transformational leadership.
In his acceptance address, Dr. Kpikpi called on Ghanaians to reimagine the future of the nation through ethical leadership, accountability and long-term national planning. He outlined PAG’s vision of a government that places integrity at the heart of public service, strengthens institutions, decentralises governance and measures progress through clear and achievable development targets.
As part of efforts to demonstrate the party’s readiness to govern, he announced that PAG will introduce a team of shadow ministers to provide policy alternatives and contribute meaningfully to national discourse. He also proposed a new model of political financing based on mass voluntary contributions from supporters, moving away from dependence on a handful of wealthy financiers.
On economic transformation, Dr. Kpikpi emphasised the need for proper planning, industrialisation and value addition. He stated that Ghana must process its agricultural produce and mineral resources locally to maximise value, create sustainable jobs and build a stronger economy. He further advocated greater Ghanaian ownership of the country’s natural resources, arguing that the nation’s wealth must primarily benefit its citizens.
Agriculture, one of PAG’s transformational plans, featured prominently in his vision for national development. He unveiled plans to establish modern agricultural villages equipped with decent housing, potable water, electricity, internet connectivity and cooperative farming systems to attract young people into agriculture. The initiative is expected to increase local food production, reduce food imports, strengthen food security and create a new generation of prosperous farmers and thriving rural communities.
Recognising Ghana’s youthful population as one of its greatest assets, Dr. Kpikpi also presented a comprehensive youth empowerment agenda centred on skills development, entrepreneurship and employment creation. He pledged to create opportunities that would enable young Ghanaians to build successful futures at home, reverse the growing trend of irregular migration and position Ghana as a destination of opportunity within Africa.
The PAG Presidential Candidate further called for higher standards of political leadership, urging Ghanaians to hold leaders accountable through the ballot box while embracing a new culture of competence, transparency and service. He maintained that the country’s transformation depends on leaders who are prepared to place national interest above partisan politics and personal gain.
The National Delegates Congress concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and unity as party faithful pledged their support for Dr. John Enyonam Kpikpi and reaffirmed the Progressive Alliance for Ghana’s mission of building a prosperous, self-reliant and inclusive Ghana through integrity, innovation and transformational leadership.
